Subject: Work-family balance

Dear Ms Goward,

Thankyou for raising this issue.

The greatest obstacle I came up against in spending more time with my children was their mother's gatekeeping.

I was criticized alternatively between not doing enough around the house,

and not doing it right. A no win situation for myself and my children.

Can I please inform you that men do different types of jobs around the house that women don't do.

eg. maintenence of cars, pruning trees in the garden, etc.

Furthermore, an oft complaint about men is that all they want to do with children is play.

Well this is part of paternal behaviour, and play is one of the ways that men teach children.

It has serious consequences, it teaches kids boundaries, so please don't denigrate dads' play with children.

Thanks and congratulations for opening the debate.

Sincerely

Maurice mok
