Under the Act, individuals can lodge complaints of sex discrimination and sexual harassment with the Australian Human Rights Commission.
We undertake a range of activities to address discrimination, sexual harassment and other barriers to equality. Our role includes reviewing laws, conducting research, preparing policy advice and running community education programs.
This work is led by Elizabeth Broderick, the Sex Discrimination Commissioner.
In July 2010, Commissioner Broderick launched her Gender Equality Blueprint 2010.
In the Blueprint the Commissioner has identified the following five priority areas for addressing sex discrimination and promoting gender equality in Australia:
- Balancing paid work and family and caring responsibilities
- Ensuring women’s lifetime economic security
- Promoting women in leadership
- Preventing violence against women and sexual
harassment - Strengthening national gender equality laws,
agencies and monitoring
