Writing Submissions to Law Reform Bodies: the National Human Rights Consultation and beyond
Invitation to attend submission-writing workshop
You are invited to attend a workshop on writing submissions to law reform bodies, to be held in Sydney on Friday, 27 February 2009 from 9.30am-12pm. The workshop will help community organisations to contribute more effectively to law reform bodies, especially through submission writing. The workshop will include two sessions. The first will address submission writing generally, and the second will assist community organisations in preparing a submission for the National Human Rights Consultation.
The workshop will not advocate any particular policy view; rather it will help community organisations to develop their own position on matters of public policy, and to communicate those views as effectively as possible to law reform bodies.
Session 1: Effective submission writing
This session will be led by the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC). It will provide an overview on effective submission-writing techniques, and how best to convey an organisation’s view to a law reform body.
- Audio of Session 1 - Mp3 (41 MB)
- Powerpoint: 'Writing submissions to law reform bodies'
- Power point: 'Too Important to be Left to the Experts' ALRC
Session 2: Contributing to the National Human Rights Consultation
This session will be led by the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law. It will help community organisations to participate effectively in the National Human Rights Consultation process, addressing the following issues:
- basic human rights principles;
- the parameters of the Consultation;
- developing an organisational position on the issues raised by the Consultation; and
- working cooperatively with other relevant stakeholders.
