Human Rights Medal
The Human Rights Medal is awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of human rights in Australia (the entrant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident).
- The entry should provide specific examples of the nominee’s efforts.
Young People’s Human Rights Medal – NEW
The Young People’s Human Rights Medal is a new award to recognise an individual who is under the age of 25 years (as of 14 July 2008) who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of human rights in Australia (the entrant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident).
- The entry should provide specific examples of the nominee’s efforts.
Law Award (sponsored by the Law Council of Australia)
Awarded to an individual or an organisation with a proven track record in the promotion and advancement of human rights in Australia through the practice of law.
- The entry should provide specific examples of the nominee’s efforts.
Community Award – Individual
Awarded to an individual with a proven track record in the promotion and advancement of human rights in the Australian community.
- The entry should provide specific examples of the nominee’s efforts.
Community Award – Organisation
Awarded to a non-government or community-based organisation with a proven track record in the promotion and advancement of human rights in the Australian community.
- The entry should provide specific examples of the nominee’s efforts.
Literature (non-fiction) Award
Awarded for a non-fiction work (including social history, social commentary, biography or documentary) published in Australia between 6 October 2007 and 3 October 2008.
- One copy of the material (hard copy book or film documentary on DVD) must accompany the entry.
Radio Award
Awarded for a news or current affairs program or documentary, of maximum one hour duration (either one program or a compilation of highlights), broadcast in Australia between 6 October 2007 and 3 October 2008.
- One copy of the material (on audio tapes or CD) must accompany the entry.
Television Award
Awarded for a TV drama, news or current affairs program or documentary, broadcast in Australia between 6 October 2007 and 3 October 2008.
- One copy of the material (on video or DVD) must accompany the entry.
Print Media
Awarded for work published in Australian magazines or metropolitan or regional newspapers between 6 October 2007 and 3 October 2008.
- One copy of the material (newspaper or magazine clippings) must accompany the entry.
