Bringing them home education module
Local History Research Activity
Teaching notes
Aim
The local history project gives students a chance to do some research and investigate the Indigenous history of their area. The activity places analysis of the effects of separation of Indigenous children from their families in a local context. It is a logical progression from the previous analysis of national and state/territory histories and will assist students to develop research and fact-finding skills and an understanding of oral histories.
Teachers should investigate the resources available in the local area before assigning this activity to ensure that students are able to complete the research in an effective and culturally sensitive manner.
