Please note:

*     STA estimate of the number of low floor and accessible buses it will have available by the commencement of the Games.

Ï     Research undertaken by Bus 2000 Ltd indicates there will be at least 75 accessible buses owned by private operators within NSW by the commencement of the Games.

D       It is necessary to also coordinate Games time public transport for Sydney's visitors and others. Due to the substantially increased demand on the public transport network within Sydney during the Olympic Games (noting that many visitors will stay in the centre of Sydney, the Eastern Suburbs and in suburbs in close proximity to the harbour, where STA buses operate) the NSW State Transit Authority has advised it is unable to provide any additional buses in excess of the 32 already being provided to ORTA during the Olympic period.

**       SOCOG has undertaken a contract with Mercedes (under sponsorship arrangements) to provide accessible Mercedes minibuses (ie "sprinters") for use during the Olympic Games. These vehicles have the capability to carry two wheelchairs per vehicle. Some of these vehicles may be available for ORTA to use during the Paralympic Games. However, ORTA's ability to use these vehicles for some its specified bus services is dependent upon an assessment of their suitability for use and regulatory compliance.

IVTS accessible buses are being provided under a separate contract with the NSW State Transit Authority. These vehicles are new, gas-powered, ultra low floor accessible buses, which are being purchased separately by STA. These vehicles are currently not operating as regular services on STA routes. The CBD Spectator Loop Shuttle service is also a separate contract between ORTA and the STA.

***       ORTA's assessment of the estimated peak accessible bus requirements for the Paralympic Games has be revised down from 220 accessible buses (including the IVTS) to 205 accessible buses (including the IVTS).   ORTA's assessment of the estimated peak accessible bus requirements for the Olympic Games has been revised up from 132 accessible buses (including the IVTS) to 142 accessible buses (including the IVTS). Also, 20-25 accessible minibuses will be required for rail supplementation and replacement during the Olympic Games, in addition to the 95 low-floor accessible buses required for Olympic spectator/workforce bus services.

#       Estimate of approximate number of accessible buses currently in Victoria, provided by the Victorian Department of Infrastructure (DOI).

F     Queensland Department of Transport (QDOT) advise that 183 accessible buses have been purchased by Queensland bus operators with partial funding from QDOT. 163 of those buses are located in Southern Queensland. There may also be some extra accessible buses in Queensland that were purchased by the operators without partial Government funding.

Notes   *   The City Bus Loop operates from 13 Sept to 3 October inclusive

a The number of buses required during the transition period is partly dependent on requests for bus hire by the various Paralympic National Committees for transport associated with pre-Games training

#   The base demand for accessible buses during the Paralympic competition period is 160 per day.   Peak requirements for an extra 50 buses are associated with spectator transport for the Opening Ceremony on 18 Oct and on the two weekends (21, 22, 28, 29 Oct), giving a total of up to 205 accessible buses on these days.

j   20-25 accessible mini-buses will be required for rail supplementation and replacement, in addition to the 95 low-floor accessible buses indicated
