Final report on the Economic Potential of Senior Australians

On 30 March this year, the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer, the Hon Wayne Swan MP and the Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, the Hon Mark Butler MP announced the establishment of the Advisory Panel on the Economic Potential of Senior Australians.

Today the Advisory Panel released its third and final report.

The objective behind establishing the Panel was to identify and respond to the economic and social opportunities that are presented by an older population.
The Panel was asked to address the central question “What new opportunities will arise in the future with a larger, and more active, community of senior Australians?”

It’s third and final report, Realising the economic potential of senior Australians: turning grey into gold, (www.treasury.gov.au/EPSA/content/publications/grey_gold/default.asp) presents a series of recommendations directed towards governments, industry and community organisations covering areas including the NBN, the environment, age discrimination, workforce participation and learning, health, volunteering, housing, and planning.

Together, the set of three reports produced by the Advisory Panel (www.treasury.gov.au/EPSA/content/advisory_panel.asp) identify the issues, barriers and steps towards realising the economic potential of senior Australians.
