2008 Human Rights Medals and Awards nominations due next Friday (3 October)
A reminder to entrants that your nominations for the Australian Human Rights Commission’s 2008 Human Rights Medals and Awards are due in seven days (Friday, 3 October).
Nominations are being accepted for the Human Rights Medal, Young People’s Human Rights Medal, and Human Rights Awards categories of: Community (Individual), Community (Organisation), Law (sponsored by the Law Council of Australia), Literature (Non-fiction), Print Media, Television and Radio.
Human Rights Commissioner, Graeme Innes, said the awards had a rich history of recognising Australia’s human rights champions.
“Since 1987, the Australian Human Rights Commission has recognised the often extraordinary contribution to Australian society of a wide variety of organisations and individuals committed to issues of human rights, social justice and equality,” Mr Innes said.
Commissioner Innes particularly encouraged people to enter the Young People’s Human Rights Medal - a new award to recognise individuals under the age of 25 years (as of 14 July 2008) who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of human rights in Australia.
“There is only week to enter these prestigious awards, so I encourage anyone who intends to nominate, or knows someone or an organisation that should nominate, to do so now so you don’t miss out.”
