Governor of Queensland, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, to present awards to Queensland State competition winners in Brisbane
Today the Human Rights Commissioner, Graeme Innes AM, announced the national winners in the Rights in Perspective Art Competition and the Human Writes Essay Competition.
This is the second year of the competition which is run jointly by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and the Australian Red Cross. Almost 550 entries were received this year, over triple the number of entries received last year. Entrants were aged between 11 and 18 years.
"I believe this competition is a very important one. Not only does it encourage young Australians to engage with major contemporary human rights issues, but it tells us what the key issues are for young people," said Commissioner Innes AM.
"I am very encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by young people around Australia towards human rights issues. The dedication, passion and intelligence which they have demonstrated in this competition gives me great hope for the future of human rights in Australia," said Commissioner Innes AM.
