Shortlists announced for 2005 Human Rights Medal and Awards
Judges have now finalised the shortlists for the 2005 Human Rights Award categories of Law, Community, Arts- Non Fiction, Print Media, Television and Radio. There is no shortlist for the Human Rights Medal, and the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Friday 9 December.
The shortlists are at: www.humanrights.gov.au/hr_awards/short_list.html
The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission would like to thank the Law Council of Australia and SBS Radio for their support of the Law Award and Community Award respectively. The Awards recognise significant contributions to the promotion and protection of human rights in Australia by both individuals and organisations.
The Commission is grateful to the independent judging panels who have given their time and expertise to examine all the nominations and decide on the winners and the shortlists. Some categories, such as the Radio and Television, required days of listening and viewing. Judges commented on the high standard of entries and congratulate all the nominees.
The 2005 Human Rights Medal and Awards will be presented on Friday, 9 December 2005, during a luncheon ceremony at the Sheraton on the Park hotel, Sydney, from 12midday to 3pm.
Radio and television personality Julie McCrossin will MC the awards, and HREOC President John von Doussa QC will deliver the Human Rights Day address.
The winners, highly commended and shortlisted nominations in each category will be announced at the ceremony, so come along and help us celebrate Human Rights Day! Ticket order forms are available at www.humanrights.gov.au/hr_awards/index.html
