HUMAN RIGHTS MEDAL AND
AWARDS 2001
Nominations for the Human Rights Medal and Awards are now open and will
close on 28 September 2001.
The 2001 Human Rights Medal will be awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to human rights in Australia. Previous medal winners include one of the leading lights of the 1967 referendum movement Faith Bandler, former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, the late Eddie Mabo, the Hon Elizabeth Evatt and the late Fred Hollows.
This year four other prizes will be awarded - in the categories of law, media, arts non-fiction and community. Detailed information about categories, criteria and previous winners are available on the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission website.
The 2001 Human Rights Medal and Awards ceremony
will be held on
Sunday, 9 December 2001
at Star Court, Darling Park, Sydney
2.30-5pm.
