The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission has a number of events and publication launches in the next fortnight. Details are as follows:

Speech to National Policy Forum on Multiculturalism

Human Rights Commissioner Dr Sev Ozdowski will deliver a speech on Human Rights and Multiculturalism to the Multiculturalism in the New Millenium Forum at the Centra Hotel, Brisbane at 9.45am, Thursday 29 March 2001.

2 - 11 April 2001
Launch of Workplace Pregnancy Guidelines

Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Susan Halliday, will launch the Workplace Pregnancy Guidelines next week and the following week, as follows:

Aimed at employers, employer organisations and unions who manage or advise on pregnancy in the workplace, the Guidelines provide practical advice on meeting obligations under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984. The Guidelines follow the Commission's Report of the National Inquiry into Pregnancy and Work, 'Pregnant and Productive: It's a right not a privilege to work while pregnant.' The document will be available on the Commission website http://www.hreoc.gov.au/sex_discrimination/index.html.

Youth Challenge 2001


The Commission's human rights education program, Youth Challenge, will be run in the Northern Territory on Wednesday 4 April and Thursday 5 April. Human Rights and acting Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Dr Sev Ozdowski, will open the Challenge.

Tabling of Social Justice and Native Title reports 2000

Annual reports on Social Justice and Native Title, by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner Dr Bill Jonas, are expected to be tabled in Federal Parliament in the near future. Further details will be advised.
