The award sculpture

The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) would like to acknowledge the long-standing support and superb artistry of Pavel Tomecko, who, for 18 years, has created the ‘Opal Dreams’ sculptures which are awarded to the winners of the Human Rights Medal and Human Rights Awards in the Media, Law, Arts Non-Fiction and Community categories. The sculptures are an enduring record of their success.

Mr Tomecko’s inspiration for these sculptures is drawn from Australia’s open horizons, which he captures with his special knowledge of Optical Crystal techniques and uses to multiply the brilliant natural colours of our national gemstone, opal.

The Commission respects the meticulous care, dedication and creativity Mr Tomecko brings to this work, and trusts he will remain integral to the celebration of the Human Rights Medal and Awards through these sculptures.
